Article heralding the end of oil misses its mark
Oil and gas’s future isn’t gloomy, and Canada should be the world’s supplier.
- The global population is still growing to almost 10 billion, primarily in developing countries.
- Oil and gas consumption and demand is still growing at “as is” scenarios. Even at lower demand prospects, oil and gas demand is still going to be there.
- Canada is a leader in energy production. We are the 6th largest energy producer in the world. Oil and gas contribute $160 billion to our economy through direct and indirect trade.
- Canada has the highest ESG rating of the top 10 oil and gas producers. We can produce energy, and we can do it better than the rest.

Until there is a dramatic revolution in renewable technology, energy is going to be supplied by oil and gas. Canada should be the world’s supplier.
